How to Start a Pressure Washing Business

Pressure washing is an integral part of commercial and residential utility maintenance.  Whether you’re looking to start your own business or if you want to become involved with the existing power washing community, there are several items you’ll need for this venture. Do yourself a favor and make sure you’ve got what it takes before investing too much time and money into your pressure washer start-up kit.

When starting out, here’s what your pressure washer start-up kit should include:

 – A high powered electric (or gas) pressure washer capable of engine speeds of 3,500 RPMs or higher

 – At least one spray nozzle: 0 degrees, 15 degrees, 20 degrees, and 40-degree spray nozzle tips

 – A 50 ft. or 100 ft. pressure hose (don’t forget to get a fitting for the pressure washer attachment!)

 – An adjustable spray gun, if possible

 – An 8″ surface cleaner attachment (opt for an 18″ or 24″ option if you can)

– A 20 gallon “wet vacuum” or water storage tank with pump and filter that can keep up with your equipment and workspace demands

 – Rubber gloves and safety goggles will go a long way to protect against injury and eye damage!

Once you have all of these items necessary for starting a pressure washing business, it’s time to look at what else you might need for your next move. Here are the essentials:

 – A business plan and marketing strategy outlining how much money you’ll need for start-up, where you’ll get that money, and how long it will take to see a return on investment (ROI)

 – An insurance policy in place with liability protection and workers’ comp insurance (if you’re hiring any help)

 – Licensing and permits in order, both local and provincial
