How to Make Money Pressure Washing

Many people have a side hustle they work on in their spare time. It might be baking pies, teaching yoga, or fixing cars. But there are some things you need to know before starting your own company and making money from a side gig. For example, how do you set up the business? What legal issues should you consider? How much will it cost to startup? And what about insurance coverage-do I need it?  In this article, we’ll go over these questions and more so that by the end of reading this article you’ll be ready to turn your side hustle into a full-time income!   Let’s explore the steps involved in starting a pressure washing company and find out how you can make money pressure washing by turning this side gig into a full-time business.

Set Up the Business

When starting any company, it’s important to think about what you need to get started. The first step is choosing a name and the type of legal entity you want your company to be. For example, if you decide to create an LLC, there are costs involved (more on that later), and these can add up and make it more difficult for your business to turn a profit in the beginning stages. If you’re not sure which option is right for your business, consult with an accountant or lawyer who can help you make this decision.  After choosing a name and legal structure (which will determine licenses and taxes) other things such as insurance should also be considered.

Set Up Insurance Coverage

Most states require insurance to be obtained before operating your business. Most likely, you will need at least general liability insurance coverage that protects you in case someone gets hurt on your property or is otherwise injured by your work. You may also want to think about purchasing workers’ compensation coverage if you have employees. Workers’ comp can cover medical expenses and lost wages for employees who get hurt while working, which means it’s worth the cost when an employee gets injured on the job!  Once these basic requirements are met (name of LLC, location of company) many people start thinking about the equipment needed to complete jobs quickly and with little effort – like pressure washers! But how much do they cost? And how will you purchase them?

Purchase the Pressure Washers

Many people buy their pressure washers from gas power washer companies or online stores. However, it’s easier to start with simpler electric models until you get more business. Look at two-gallon to 5-gallon machines for your first few jobs, since they are lighter and more manageable than larger models. Also, consider purchasing used equipment until you get enough work that requires a machine with better specs.  If you choose to purchase new equipment, keep in mind that some states require licensing of pressure washing companies, while others do not—so consult with an attorney before doing this. Ok, so now that we have covered setting up the company and getting insurance let’s talk about how much money you can make with a pressure washing company.

How Much Money Can I Make?

Pressure washer companies usually come in two forms: one-man operations and larger businesses.

One-Man Operations If you want to go the simple route, start an LLC, get insurance coverage, buy some basic equipment, and start working! This is the simplest way to work on your side hustle until it’s time to turn it into a full-time business. You can also consider subcontracting out jobs when you’re busy or doing something new that you’re less familiar with. As an example of how this works, let’s say you own a cleaning company in Los Angeles and need some help relocating furniture in a client’s apartment. You’re busy and don’t want to do it yourself, so you hire a moving company to help with the job. The moving company takes care of everything—now all you need to do is send them an invoice! This method only works if you’re working independently and not as part of a larger team or business.

Larger Pressure Washer Companies If you would like to work for a pressure washing company that specializes in this type of service, consider applying for jobs online such as those advertised by gas pressure washer companies. These types of jobs may be more difficult to find than freelance gigs since they require specific skills and license requirements. Sometimes these companies provide training so that the person hired can become fully licensed. Many times, the training is simply to provide an opportunity for people who are interested in starting their own pressure washing business. If you would rather work independently, these larger gas power washer companies may be able to connect you with customers that have jobs your could complete on your own.
